Introducing “HIGH GLOSS” by Asphalt Canvas.
The HIGH GLOSS collection is my contemporary and playful take on colorful “wallpaper-like” designs, featuring exotic automobiles juxtaposed and intermingled with similarly shaped patterns. The patterns in these paintings directly correspond to the sweeping or structured body lines of the featured car.
The paintings in HIGH GLOSS are the first of their kind from my studio.
I have been experimenting with the help of Josh and Lorna of Inline Six Paint and Body Shop in Lampasas, Texas, within my creative process.
After multiple test panels, we’ve pushed the boundaries of both the art and automotive industry, by proving that canvas fabric (originally designed for oil and acrylic paint) can be sprayed with a paint gun in an actual booth designed for painting cars.
Our Creative Process
Thanks to Iffla Media (@iffla_media on Instagram) for capturing a step in the är tə’ mō-tiv™ art process.
The blank canvas is sprayed with color in Josh’s the paint booth. Once dry, he scuffs it up with a coarse pad and brings it to my studio.
I then transfer my designs wit chalk onto the prepper canvas and paint the entire image by hand, using Alpha 6 Automotive Enamels. After my painted design is cured. I take the canvas panel back to the body shop.
The final step is the equally the most exciting and nerve wracking. Josh cleans the canvas surface and takes the painting back into the paint booth. He then shoots it with a high gloss automotive paint that encapsulates my hand painted imagery in a smooth and shinny clear coat revealing the metallic sparkle of the chosen background color!!
“Mambo No.5” in my HIGH GLOSS Collection in addition to my “Lockets” Series that features this exciting new way of making art.
I’ve started to call this type of art, är tə’ mō-tiv™ art, a term I am in the process of having trademarked in Texas for my studio!!
This painting if for sale HERE.
