“You are so talented, I can’t even draw a stick figure”- an artwork admirer.
Fact: It doesn’t take talent to draw a stick figure. It takes creativity.
Talent and creativity are two different things.
Talent it is the natural and specific gift you’ve been given by God to use in an earthly realm. This means that “talent” is the word used to describe times when you do something very well with a certain amount of ease. (i.e. painting , photography , writing , welding , or building cars, baking)
Creativity, according to Merriam-Webster, is the ability to generate or discover new ideas, solutions, and possibilities.
While talent and creativity are inherit in all human beings according to the bible, the difference is that talent comes naturally to a person, while creativity takes a little bit of skill building. From my experience, I’ve found there are four specific attributes of your personality that you can focus on developing to naturally increase your creativity:
Curiosity
Somebody that is creative wonders if there is a different way to reach the same objective. Their curiosity drives them to try new things.
Courage
Somebody that is creative is willing to take calculated risks.
Humility
Somebody that is creative is willing to fail when they try new things or experiences.
Determination
Somebody that is creative uses failure as a tool. They are determined to succeed, no matter how long it takes or how tedious the process.
Curiosity + courage + humility + determination = creativity.
Repeat.
As an entrepreneur, you will be faced with this equation for creativity in all aspects of your day-to-day tasks. All four attributes are vital to living a purpose-driven life.
Thankfully, curiosity, courage, humility, and determination can be learned and practiced. This is why I firmly believe that everybody on the planet is capable of “drawing a stick figure” (i.e creativity).
Repeating the creativity equation and honing these personality traits will not only help you tap into your creativity, but after a continual pursuit, you will in turn, find your natural and God given talent.
