Introducing “Lockets” by Asphalt Canvas.
Over the years, I have collected stacks of vintage photographs featuring women with cars. I’m that crazy girl digging through shoe boxes at antique stores looking for these specific black and white, well-worn images — Up until now, I’ve had no idea what to do with them but admire their vintage quality and classiness.
Inspiration struck me when I saw an image of a woman’s face inside of a forgotten heart-shaped locket.
I’ll never forget the feeling of bittersweet nostalgia as I opened that locket. The woman in the picture was beautiful but had probably passed on. What was her story? Who loved her?
I started thinking of the person who took their time to painstakingly cut her face from a photograph to fit it perfectly into that heart shape.
I started thinking about the love they must have felt for this unnamed woman…They loved her enough to carry her photograph with them around their neck.
The essence of love.
These är tə’ mō-tiv™ paintings are hand painted using automotive enamel paint on canvas. Each one is coated with an automotive gloss clear coat at Inline Six Paint and Body Shop using their actual car painting booth.
When a new painting is complete, I will post it to my online shop under Lockets and send a letter to my newsletter subscribers FIRST letting them know it’s available. This collection will remain open ended.
As a professional artist, I’ve learned it’s good to have 3 to 5 continuing collections in which I create artwork for in my signature style.
If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ve probably seen my most recent collection called “She’s Been Everywhere, Man!” In addition to that collection, I also have a Licensed Rat Fink collection; both of which I’m continually adding new work to.
By creating art specifically for these well-planned collections, I have been able to strengthen my painting technique and solidify a recognizable style and aesthetic.
